Software Used: OS was Windows98 build 1998. CPU was AMD K6/2-350. Driver Release:4.05.1050 (3/20/99). Data Capture via Gina card, using 4.05 drivers. Analysis by Spectra Lab 4.32.14.

Discussion Of Results

The only solid bright spot in this card's performance is for the digital output, which is not too bad other than a noticable frequency response roll-off above 5 KHz.

It was not possible to input a SP/DIF signal (1 volt p-p) via the SP/DIF digital input, but both digital inputs worked well with a the TTL-level digital output of a Creative Labs 32x CD player.

The digital input must be enabled via the Windows Recording Mixer's special feature control. Once enabled, an actively clocked digital signal must be present when you start to record, or there will be an error message. The digital I/O is not affected by level controls.

It should be noted that hooking a digital signal to either digital input precludes use of the other digital input. The digital I/O supported only 44 KHz 16 bit Stereo operation.

The analog Dynamic Range level figures show considerable nonlinearity and error at low levels.

Despite its poor analog performance, this card is an overall improvement over its predecessor, the CMI 8330, mainly because of the performance of its digital input and output.
