Since Gina is the current "Reference" card for the tests on this site, all Analog/Digital test results that could be obtained would be the same as those shown above, for analog loop-back operation. The Event Darla card has the identical analog circuitry to Gina, but uses a different means to terminate the analog connections. Its performance should be very similar. For 16 bit analog performance test results, see the Darla test.
These results were obtained by looping back the software and equipment used. All tests were performed as close to digital full scale (FS) as possible.
The PC system used for these tests was a 32 meg P5-200 built on a Asus TP97XE motherboard sitting on a wooden test jig with no case. Other cards in the machine included a Turtle Beach Fiji, and Intel 100BTX network card, and a S3 Virge chipset video card. Some other motherboards are known to provide poorer numbers for noise in the analog tests.
The digital tests were performed by looping back the SP/DIF connectors of the Gina card with a 6 foot piece of Radio Shack Video cable, The analog tests were done by looping the 3-4 outputs of the Gina to its 1-2 inputs, using a fabricated approx. 6" TRS jumper cable.
The nonlinear distortion of the Gina card can be substantially improved over these numbers by choosing slightly lower operating levels. Tests performed on other cards with Gina may show substantially worse figures for noise, because the Gina lacks balanced I/O.
