Software Used: Windows98 SE; Driver Release: v4081 , Reference analog input/output level was 1.0  volts. Card used for data acquisition was a Card Deluxe. Analytical software: Spectra Lab 4.32.14. Test done using a P2-500 CPU in a  Asus P2B-B system board.

Discussion Of Results

The mixer and its very  friendly-looking software seemed to lack technical  refinement. The level controls had coarse steps. The supplied mixer software does not allow tweaking levels with the arrow keys. Adjustments made by other mixers were not reflected in the Santa Cruz mixer.

Response to digital data at the analog output is inverted. Response to the analog input as digital data is not inverted. 

The digital output is sampled at 48 KHz even when the data is 44 KHz. Like many other consumer soundcards, the Santa Cruz does quite a bit of resampling, but unlike many of it competitors, the resampling does not seem to materially degrade technical or audible performance.

There are two stereo pairs of analog inputs and two stereo pairs of analog outputs that can be activated to concurrently record and play  4 channels using instructions in  the Santa Cruz FAQ which is posted at the Voyetra web site. Each pair of  inputs and outputs has essentially the same technical  quality.
