Digital to Analog (DAC) Test Details
"Web Page Under Construction"

In the Digital to Analog (DAC) test, the wave output  or sound playback  portion of the sound card is tested in terms of its ability to accurately convert a ordinary audio signal from digital data to an analog signal. This portion of the card is tested as an Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) .

A test signal is generated digitally. It is then converted to analog (in other words, an ordinary audio signal voltage that has many possible amplitudes and varies with time) using the playback, output, or DAC portion of the sound card under test.

The analog output of the sound card is converted back to digital using a reference ADC. The reference ADC is chosen for accuracy.

The digital output of the reference ADC is evaluated for distortion and noise by digital means. Depending on the Distortion and Noise Analyzer used, we operate the card under test directly, or we analyze a wave file made by the sound card and reference wave file recorder software.
