What is AM Distortion?

AM distortion is a form of signal processing error that causes input tones that have a steady intensity to become output tones that have unsteady intensity. It also affects unsteady input tones by increasing how unsteady they are.
Because AM distortion generates tones that are not present in the input, it is considered to be a kind of nonlinear distortion.

AM distortion is often used to create a "Vibrato" Effect.
