Result: 640x480 102
800x600 58
Images were excellent with smooth animation.
QuakeII Benchmark Results
Software mode: 1024x768 12.9
1152x864 10.8
OpenGL mode: 1024x768 18.3
1152x864 11.1 with 8 bit textures 12.4
1280x960 10.7
These numbers are deceptively small. I have found anything faster than 8 or so plays sufficiently smoothly so as to have no noticable jerkiness. The graphics are excellent, and the OpenGL graphics are better than the software in that edges and textures are smoothed and more natural. Matrox uses an openGL emulation for this game only that works quite well, but requiring a bit of gamma correction.
Resolution/speed
1600x1200x24 70Hz
1600x1200x32 60Hz
All lower resolutions supported at 75Hz or more.
Comments
The install was difficult, until I loaded the newest drivers from the Matrox website, then the installation went smoothly. The Matrox set of display modification utilities called the "Power Desk" is very good, and offers considerable flexibility, including a utility to define monitor characteristics in case you don’t have a well known brand. This is presently my card of choice because it will do higher resolutions than the nearest competition, and supports openGL; the 3d performance is only marginally less good than the next card.
